Vintage Camper Restoration LLC is a "small, family owned business" based in Cazenovia, in southwest Wisconsin. Steve Prouty and his son Clayton founded it in 2014. It offers vintage camper restoration and renovation, from minor repairs to full "shell-off" restorations. Its late-model Airstream work runs under the name Midwest Airstream Service, which has its own website. Ask whether it comes to your campsite or driveway before you book.

It works on pull-behind campers, which it describes as "pull behind aircraft-style, aluminum bodied campers," and names Airstreams, Spartans, Silverstreaks and Avions "to name a few." For late-model Airstreams, its list runs from air conditioning, plumbing and electrical troubleshooting to appliance swaps, solar installation, leak testing and resealing, and bearing repacking. Its restoration work adds subfloor repair and replacement, frame repair, custom cabinetry and upholstery. It names its service area as "Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and the entire Midwestern US." Motorhomes and fifth wheels do not appear in its work, so ask before you call about one.

No prices are posted, so ask for the trip fee and the hourly rate when you call. Hours, after-hours service and emergency calls are not described either, and neither are licensing, insurance or a warranty. Google rates it 4.6 stars from 10 reviews and lists it as an RV repair shop.

The business puts it plainly: "Water will quickly damage your wood subfloor." That is the reason a pre-purchase inspection on a used camper is worth paying for. A leak found before you buy is a point to negotiate. A leak found after you buy is your repair bill. It also suggests an "annual, preventative leak test" for rigs already owned.

This is a good fit for an owner with a late-model Airstream who wants leak work, a pre-purchase inspection or an appliance upgrade, or an owner with a vintage aluminum camper who wants a restoration and is ready to ask the price questions first.
