PDX Camper Van Tech

PDX Camper Van Tech is a one-man van conversion and upgrade shop based in Portland, Oregon, run by Laurence Claggett. The work it describes is installing and upgrading camper vans, so if you need a repair on a van already on the road, ask first whether it takes that job.

It installs and upgrades battery banks, inverters, solar charging, DC-DC charging and shore power charging. Plumbing covers hot and cold fresh water systems, showers, sinks and greywater tanks. Heating and cooling covers diesel heaters, hydronic heating and air conditioning systems. It also does cabinetry, ceilings, walls and floors, awnings, spare-tire carriers, roof racks, ladders and fans. Its electrical work follows "the electrical standards of the ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council)." ABYC standards are written for boats, so ask how it applies them in a van.

It does not publish prices, a trip fee or hours, and no service area is posted. Call (971) 266-3035 and ask what a job costs, how far it will travel, whether it comes to your site or you bring the van to its shop, and when it is open.

Laurence has "3 plus years of professional experience" in van conversion electrical, heating and cooling, plumbing and cabinetry, along with residential remodeling and cabinetry. Because he works alone, the person you talk to is the person who does the job. He also offers help planning a build, and the page says he is "available for DIY consulting if you want a hand in planning your build."

This is a good fit for a camper van owner in Portland who wants solar, electrical or heating work installed, or who wants help planning a build.
