Bauer Automotive Service

Bauer Automotive Service is a heavy-duty truck repair shop based in Chatham, New Jersey. It lists RV service and repairs as one of its truck services, so you bring the RV to its shop at 27 Watchung Avenue rather than having a tech come to you.

Bauer works on engine and chassis computerized diagnostics, engine mechanical repairs, clutch, transmission and driveline, steering, suspension, air conditioning and electrical repair, with experience on Caterpillar, Cummins, International, Detroit, Mercedes and Volvo engines. It states it performs all mechanical repairs for medium and heavy duty trucks in Chatham, Summit, Madison, and surrounding areas, which gives a sense of how far it will reach for this kind of work.

No hourly rate, diagnostic fee or RV-specific price list is published, so ask about cost when you call. Bauer runs 24/7 heavy duty towing, road service and recovery, with an ETA within 1 hour most calls, which matters if your rig breaks down on the road rather than in a driveway. Shop hours are Monday through Sunday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The shop has been family owned and operated for over 50 years, and its mechanics are ASE certified, a mark that means the techs working on your rig have passed a recognized trade test. Google rates it 4.1 stars from 164 reviews.

This is a good fit for an RV owner near Chatham, Summit or Madison who has a diesel or heavy-duty chassis problem, especially one that needs a tow or roadside response rather than a drive-in appointment.
